All Canadians should see themselves reflected in Canada’s history. And, understanding and exploring the past is the key to ensuring a better future for everyone. These are the guiding principles of Canada’s History Society (“CHS”), a national organization that uses publishing, educational, and recognition programs to raise awareness and increase the relevance of our shared past — illuminating the people, places and events that unite the Canadians.
Founded in 1994, CHS reaches more than three million of readers through its flagship magazines Canada’s History and Kayak: Canada’s History Magazine for Kids, as well as its site CanadasHistory.ca. It also is the administrator of the Governor General’s History Awards, the Canada’s History Forum, the Historical Thinking Institute, Heritage Fairs, and the Young Citizens program, which together connect, encourage, and inspire students, scholars, educators, and the wider history community.
A trusted source in history education, CHS provides quality content, resources, and professional learning opportunities for students and teachers throughout Canada. This valuable work helps to strengthen communities and promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion in Canada. Power Corporation is a proud supporter of the Canada’s History Society in its mission to illuminate Canada’s rich history.
