A leading cultural ambassador for Montréal and a pillar of its artistic heritage, the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM) is a prestigious Québec institution with a well-established international reputation. Since its creation in 1934, world-renowned conductors—including Wilfrid Pelletier, Zubin Mehta, and Kent Nagano—have helmed the orchestra’s artistic direction and contributed to its fame. The 2021–2022 season now sees internationally famous conductor Rafael Payare take up the baton as the OSM’s Music Director.
Established in 2009, the OSM Foundation serves to secure the OSM’s future and its worldwide reputation, as well as develop and maintain its activities in the community. Keenly aware of the power of music and the orchestra’s role as a community educator, particularly among young people, Power Corporation and several of its subsidiaries are long-time supporters of the OSM and the OSM Foundation.
The funds contributed to the OSM annually are in the main earmarked for promoting its profile beyond Canada’s borders. They help finance tours and dates outside the Maison symphonique, as well as enable the OSM to invite, every year, a number of the world’s leading soloists and conductors. The Foundation also enables the recording and broadcast of concerts online in order to make classical music more accessible to everyone—something we at Power Corporation care very deeply about.
